Germantown American Legion

Post 325

History:
Diesen-Winkler Post 325 is located in Germantown, Illinois and is named in honor of Anton Diesen and George Winkler who were killed in action in World War I. The Post namesakes are honored in a memorial at the Post along with the other Germantown veterans who gave their lives while serving in the Armed Forces: Clarence Gramann, Norbert Horstmann, Lawrence Huser, Alphonse Linnemann, Marlin Eversgerd, Norman Eversgerd, Ralph Ortmann, Herbert Langenhorst and Josh Melton. The Post also maintains a Veterans’ Memorial at the Germantown Veterans Park which honors all Germantown Veterans.

The Post has been in continuous operation since it was chartered in 1909.  The Post is aligned under the 23rd District, 5th Division, Department of Illinois of the American Legion.  Post 325 also is home to the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 325 and the Ladies' Auxiliary Post 325.

Mission: The American Legion is based on four pillars: Veterans Affairs, National Security, Americanism and Children and Youth. The Legion, Sons of the American Legion and Ladies’ Auxiliary of Post 325 work together as “The Post” to support all four in numerous ways.

The Post conducts a Memorial Day Ceremony in Church and at the Village Cemetery, a Veterans’ Day Program at the Germantown Elementary School and Funeral/Memorial Services for Veterans at the family’s request. The Post participates in all Germantown and Veterans’ Day parades. The Post also sponsors two breakfasts and two dinners every year and hosts a visit from Santa Claus for the children.

The Post operates the Legion Hall which serves as the site of numerous community events. The Hall is an official polling station during elections, the site of Red Cross blood drives and is the designated emergency shelter for the Village of Germantown and the surrounding area. Numerous civic organizations use the facility for regular meetings and fundraisers.
